We all have heard saying like “sky’s is the limit” you can do anything and you can go as far as you desire. I believe there is some truth to it. But then I wonder, why are there only less than 5% of people reach on the top of their potential, not only in terms of financial pinnacle but also have achieved social status or are at the political height? Mother Theresa is a good example of a person who was able to achieve as some people believe; sainthood status, presumably the highest status in philanthropic circle.
Despite several such achievements we still do not understand as to pathological link that makes one to go way high on socio/economical ladder. No doubt many individuals have achieved extraordinary status in their respective fields: Michael Jordan, Anthony Robins, and Les Brown are modern-day witnesses who have broken through limitations and metaphorically touched the sky.
There are numerous studies, research, and investigations in every type of human endeavors to figure this out. Few scientists have operated many brains of known geniuses of our times, to conclude that there have been no measurable differences between a so-called “genius brain” and the brain of an “ordinary person”. Even psychologists have explored in-depth exploration, but there is still no positive understanding as to why some individuals excel and others do not.
There are many motivational coaches that also try to bring awareness to one’s potential. You may have heared about Anthony Robins, a great speaker who has been able to make ordinary people walk on burning coals of fire. There are many people who provide testimonials attributing their successes to Mr. Robins’s teachings. But according to his own account, these numbers are far less than 5% of people who have, in one way or another, tried to follow his instructions. What happened to the rest? Obviously there are no testimonials of failures.
My view is that everything starts with desire. Not just a wish or a want, but a burning desire, that sort of thing. Most of the time, this burning desire sprouts in early stage of childhood. I want to be an actor, or a teacher, president of the United States, football, baseball,or tennis super star. Some carry forward with that desire for the rest of their lives. They live and breathe and keep reminding their inner child that it will eventually happen. For many of those stardom does happen.
The successful people continue to nurture that desire, some audaciously and some silently, some in subtle manner, and some take bold steps. So, the next logical step is to keep moving in the right direction. That is where many get strayed, find faults, and look for excuses for abandoning the inner desire. Fear is another factor that can kill or mutilate the desire. Lastly, laziness and procrastination act as silent ambition- killers, and put cold water on one’s inner burning desires.
All the elements of right time-right place is the by product of a desire that grew inside. Many other factors also contribute as well, such as having a supportive network, mentors and parental encouragement are also the byproduct of desire. It is then up to the person to step up and manifest the talent or go into obscurity.
This also applies to SMB entrepreneurs. Fear, fault finding-missions, and procrastination also prevent many SMBs to grow to their highest potential.
This is of course. my view, I am finding this my late coming, myself. I wish I was able to recognize this (fault finding) in an early stage of my life. Maybe we can all collectively refine this theory and contribute towards a major discovery for the benefit of entrepreneurs and individuals who are still searching their true desire.
